 Long Time No See!
« Thread Started on Sept 16, 2009, 3:04pm »

Well I'm not a new member, but it does say "or been a member for long" on the board, so...

Not logged in for along time (forgot my password and thought I still had my old email address asigned to my account so I wouldn't be able to get it).

Seems to be a lot of old members still here.
Well as some of you may remember, I get dizzy spells, been having them for over 11 years now. Been having some tests (blood tests and 24 hour UFC). Waited well over two months for my results but should get them this week hopefully. When I phoned to ask, they said they need to do further Addisons testing, so I'm thinking my AM cortisol must have been very low. At least if it is that, I'll finally know what's causing my dizzy spells after such a long time! So that would be good, in a way!

And I'm not 28 yet, think my profile has always said the wrong age despite putting he correct birthdate in!

Thanks. Have you had a 24 hour UFC test (you pee in bottles for 24 hours lol :-[) as some cortisol test can be inacurate. For exampl, if you have Cyclical Cushing's, you can get normal results sometimes even if you DO have Cushing's because you can cycle from high to low/normal and vice versa.
I've had some days where I don't get dizzy at all but I started getting really hot despite the weather and forgetting things as well as a few other symptoms.

I drink at least 5 litres of water a day, that's rare though, it's usually around 10 litres or more, so I guess my body must need that amount as that's more than enough to kill someone healthy.
Had a barbecue at Heaton Park with my brother and sister and a friend. Just couldn't wait for a drink, was really thirsty, so called in at the pub nearby for a Coke.

I've had normal ECG tests, and they were going to do a 24 hour or a 7 day one, plus some other tests. Don't know if that's still going ahead now. I guess I'll see when I get my results.

Hope Hospital cardiologist (I'm under Manchester Royal Infirmary now) had said they didn't think it was anything heart related and discharged me. Then they said in my notes I didn't turn up for an appointment. There was no appointment cos I was discharged! Probably did that to cover his back as my Dad had heart problems and died of a heart attack.

If you suspect Cushing's, this website forum gives good advice. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have had the tests I have had because I didn't know much.
Also, somepeople have been told they didn't have Cushing's when their cortisol was so high, there was no room for a margin of error!

I kind of gave up hope of ever finding out what's causing the dizzy spells as I've been waiting so long. But then I got angry (lol I'm not an angry person though) and got a docs appointment and requested the tests not taking no for an answer. When he was ojecting, i said "If the endocrinolgist I saw had remembered what he'd learnt in medical school, I wouldn't need to have these tests!". :o

Good luck with your results. :)

Got a letter today. It does look like they suspect Addisons as I've now got an appointment for September for a short synacthen test and before these tests I wasn't due for any hospital appointment til November and that wasn;t one of them.
I could finally find out what's causing the dizzy spells! ;D

Well I had the test and they did it wrong! Didn't know at the time, but they should have taken 3 sets of blood samples as the first is just a baseline or something, but they only took two. And the black cab taxi driver went the long way round and broke the hospital's 10mph speed limit by at least 30mph!, so if you ever have to get a cab from Salford precinct, don't get number 45!

Tried a normal cycle journey recently, one that would leave me no problems and I had to stop, I really felt like I was going to collapse! Even to the point where I wondered how the hell I would get home! Luckily, I made it going very slow, but I was knackered!

I had two pet gerbils, but sadly Sandy's younger sister died on 21st September aged just under 14 months. May get a new one but she seems to have perked up a lot - I've been taking her out of her gerbilarium a lot more, even got a pic on my phone of her watching a movie! New phone though, pic messaging not working so I'll have to phone 02 about it. Sandy even made a little nest next to me on the chair but I had to move her cos I had the hospital appointment! Took her to the vet a ouple of days after her sister Dusky died, and she's fine. In fact, the vet said she was "really healthy"! :) She was even surprised by how healthy she was, even more so when she learnt she was the daughter of pet shop gerbils and not breeders. :)

Thats sweet, I was looking at some Degus today in the pet store, they are so so cute!!

Never had degus, apparently they are like a giant gerbil?! lol

May get Sandy a new cagemate as before Dusky died, she'd never been alone. Though she did once fall asleep in the hallway next to me, and I was so tired myself, I fell asleep next to her! When I woke up, she was still there fast asleep! Would have made a good photo lol.

Lol I wasn't planning on it, butwe were both tired.
Sandy doesn't pee much as gerbils don't drink much (they originate from the desert I think), so my hallway (where I'd let her out for a run as it's the only safe place) was as clean as when we fell asleep as when we woke up! ;D

Got Sandy a new wheel (her and Dusky used the wheel so much and so fast that I couldn't find the part for it and then I accidently stood on it and broke it!). She loves it! :)
